Houston man killed in single-vehicle crash near Iota – Daily Advertiser

Louisiana State Police Troop I is investigating a single vehicle crash near the Iota/Estherwood exit in Acadia Parish that occurred last night, killing a Houston man.
Edwin Johnson, 53, was riding in the passenger seat of a 1997 Crystler van eastbound on the I-10 service road when driver Shameka Semere, 27, ran off the road, hitting a ditch embankment and killing him.
Semere had her seat belt on and wasn’t injured in the crash. Johnson, who was not seat belted, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner. Police administered a chemical breath test to Semere, and determined she was over twice the legal limit for alcohol.
Semere was arrested for vehicular homicide and careless operation, and booked into the Acadia Parish Jail. The crash remains under investigation.
